THIS WEEK:

  • Beat Magazine have created a list of small Australian makers, venues and stores to highlight support for small businesses this holiday season. The gift guide includes suggestions such as gig tickets to The Melbourne Recital Centre, vouchers to Dutch Vinyl and locally-made booze from Young Henry’s brewery and Melbourne Gin Company. There’s something for everyone in case you’re stuck on gift ideas and want to support local!

  • Facebook is working on an Instagram content calendar for business owners. The calendar will display Instagram posts, both past and scheduled, making it much easier to map out your social media strategy. The calendar will be apart of Facebook’s Creator Studio. Will this match the prowess of other scheduling platforms like Later, Planoly and Buffer? One to keep an eye on.

  • Sprout Social research has proven an increase in support for small businesses this year. 311,300 tweets about small businesses included the words ‘help’ or ‘support’, demonstrating consumers compassion for the challenges small businesses have faced amidst the pandemic. As a result of the affects COVID-19 restrictions have had on the economy, 83% of consumers have said they would now prefer to shop small.

  • Instagram is adding timers to Stories to boost engagement. The platform has begun testing the feature, which will show users how long is left until the story is erased, prompting followers to click and view. If you see a time limit on a story’s existence, are you more likely to click it? Or is that just added pressure that none of us need? Is it really the limit that will make us want to click or is it the order of stories at the top of our feed? Which one takes priority for viewing?

  • Music Ally and Sandbox have curated a report of the best 2020 music campaigns, demonstrating the creativity and innovation of marketing throughout the pandemic. Some of the notable awards include producer Alan Walker for best use of gaming, and band HAIM for best use of Zoom. Don’t be fooled by these being the best of the pandemic. Ultimately, these are reports on the best online campaigns whilst you had everyone’s undivided attention during lockdown, but also while competing with a sea of other music marketers. All incredibly relevant to the online world that we currently live in. Definitely worth checking out!
