  • Instagram is now conducting tests that stop users from sharing feed posts on their stories. The test removes the ability to share posts from your feed and stops users being double-served the exact same posts. This is another step for Instagram’s heavy development focus they have been implementing over the last few months.

Instagram released a statement explaining the change stating, “We’ve seen from research that people prefer to see original photos and videos in Stories.” This change will prompt users to create more original content for each stream within Instagram and diversify their feeds.

Or will it mean that high-quality content is harder to share across profiles…

  • Ticketmaster has launched a new livestream ticketing service.
The ticketing company has decided to further expand its existing live streaming platform, stating they’re now aiming to provide “a global and cohesive offering to artists for their virtual events, maximising Ticketmaster’s expertise, marketing and reach on a worldwide scale.”

The parent company, Live Nation Entertainment, has already had major success in delivering live streaming events on a variety of platforms, so this evolution for Ticketmaster feels natural and expected.

  • TikTok will continue to operate in the United States of America.
The Biden administration has announced that it will not be forcing TikTok to sell its company to an American company. The previous administration was pushing for the app to be sold to the Walmart group and threatened a complete ban if the company wasn’t compliant.

The removal of this possible ban will allow TikTok to further evolve and expand in the United States. There is a possibility that the app could still face mandatory restrictions to Comply with US laws and regulations. American app users can now be relieved that they can continue to create and consume content on TikTok after months of insecurity.

  • Napster has returned after 19 years.
Virtual entertainment company Melody VR has announced they’re merging with the Napster brand. They plan to launch a platform with immersive visual content and music streaming components. VR music performances and live-streamed events are expected to also be hosted on the platform.

Napster was a music distribution platform that went bankrupt in 2002. Napster later became Roxio, which has since been passed around and had multiple different owners since 2003.

Now belonging to Melody VR, they hope the name change will bring them bouts of commercial and brand recognition to fully propel their new platform.

How do you feel about this brand recognition? Positive associations from the past?

  • Spotify has confirmed that it is testing a new live lyrics feature in the US market.
The platform currently has ‘behind the lyrics’ feature, powered by Genius, which is only available on the select songs which display song lyrics and story surrounding the creation of the song. This test will deliver lyrics in real-time to users’ screens while consuming music.

Spotify has decided to partner with Musixmatch on this project to integrate lyrics fully into the platform. Musixmatch has worked alongside Spotify to make this feature available in 26 markets across Southeast Asia, India and Latin America. This is the first time it will be featured in a western country and it has been long-awaited by Spotify users in these regions.

Competitors like Amazon music already widely offer a similar feature to users. It’s valuable for Spotify to finally be testing this feature.
