  • Facebook is removing over 1000 ad targeting options due to low user or similarity to other existing targeting options. Facebook explains that the decision has been made to help “simplify and streamline” the service. The last time Facebook deleted ad targeting options was back in 2018 when they removed over 5000 in an effort to stop potential discriminatory targeting and eliminate the exclusion of certain audiences. • Facebook tests their own TikTok-esque feature called ‘Short Videos’ in India, where TikTik has been banned for the past six weeks. Facebook is likely investigating whether they can take the place of the popular platform. Located within the Facebook feed, users are able to click on a short video and then use the scroll down feature to keep viewing TikTok-like content. The feature allows users to upload up to 26-second videos with music and text.

  • Facebook have introduced a new feature to event pages, where organisers can now charge for event access. COVID-19 restrictions have meant the absence of live music and a switch to live stream and digital performances. Having the ability to charge users for access to events means that musicians will be able to start making a ‘live’ income once again (even if it is from online). This feature is available in Australia and 19 other countries with the latest update of the app. The purchases made through Facebook Pay will allow creators to keep 100% the charge price, whereas only 70% for purchases made via iOS and Android in-app sales.
