  • Instagram has made new updates to its live stream feature.

There are two new features that have been added: the ability to mute your audio during a live and the option to turn off your camera during the broadcast. When you’re doing an IG live you’ll see the option on the screen to tap the camera icon to switch off your video and a microphone icon to switch off your photo. When a user’s camera is switched off it will show their profile picture. Instagram states this update is aimed to “help decrease pressure to look or sound a certain way while broadcasting live." What do you think? Will you use this feature?

  • Twitter is testing an updated offensive comments alert feature.
Last year Twitter tested new prompts before users sent a tweet asking them to reconsider posting the tweet due to offensive content. Twitter has decided to incorporate this as a permanent feature on IOS and Android. The feature has been improved upon to make it more accurate when calling out offensive language. The notification will give the user the option to edit the tweet, send the tweet or completely delete it. Have you received a notification and did it make you think twice?

  • Snapchat has announced the launch of its creator marketplace.

This marketplace aims to bring creators and brands together in a seamless and simple way. Not only will it bring brands and creators together, but it will also bring brands and lens/AR creators together to make custom Snapchat lenses. This marketplace will be a great marketing tool for businesses to create meaningful and high-quality collaborations and content. The marketplace will be open to businesses this year and will expand to creators and “Snapchat stars” later this year and into early 2022.

  • Reddit is the latest social media platform to jump on the audio room trend.

“Reddit Talk” aims to allow users to have audio conversations within different Reddit communities and subreddits. This feature will make it so users can have real-time conversations with each other about their favourite topics. The trend of audio rooms in apps has been on the rise since the launch of an app called Clubhouse. Multiple social media platforms like Twitter have jumped on this trend and have integrated similar features into their platforms. You can sign up to be one of the beta testers for this via Reddit’s website.

  • Youtube’s latest test features a new comment display option.

At specific time points during video playback, comments will display on the screen, this could add additional context to a video or extra commentary. When viewers comment on a video they can add a timestamp to the start of their comment i.e “ 0:51 love the view” and their comment will be displayed in the video at the allocated time. This feature is currently being beta tested and we might see this as a permanent feature depending on the feedback given. What do you think about this? Would you like to see live comments displayed during your screen time? Lets us know below!
